The proliferation of renewable decentralized energy sources and the temporally diffierent energy needs of private consumers and industry, pose new challenges in energy storage and transport systems. For the latter, grid management is a suitable mechanism to yield a broader economic optimum or cope with lagging transport system expansion projects. Its task is to detect potential overload condition ahead of time and to schedule proactive electricity generation and consumption changes to counteract impending bottlenecks. Active grid management is required for a cost effective and stable operation of the grid. Particularly, high costs are associated to the process of reducing the generator power. The optimization task of minimizing these costs while avoiding overloads is subject of this pilot solution. To ensure network stability and stake holder acceptance, the grid management actions and the underlying optimizations must be carried out very quickly in order to provide the best economic benefit for all parties involved by the grid management process. Together with our customer we put forward a solution based on combinatorial modelling and quantum inspired computation. In addition, we outline the values for a productive environment.
