Quantum Computers in HPC Centers: The Path to Quantum-Accelerated Supercomputing

Quantum computing promises to be a breakthrough science and technology star, but its true power lies in partnering with supercomputing. In this presentation, I’ll highlight LRZ’s efforts to provide, merge and optimize various quantum accelerators into HPC workflows and into HPC centers. This includes insights into the recent placement of the BMBF-funded Q-Exa quantum computer at LRZ and the development of the Munich Quantum Software Stack with its mission to compute with hybrid HPC-QC using multiple quantum systems. I’ll discuss the current state of quantum computing, the known hurdles we face, and the steps needed to move forward.
