Today, we are facing one of the greatest challenges of our time, climate change, and at the same time we are experiencing a technological revolution through artificial intelligence and the future possibilities of quantum technologies.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly penetrating our everyday lives, while at the same time causing ever-increasing energy consumption. Cloud AI applications have driven this development significantly, while at the same time there is an increasing paradigm shift to edge AI solutions caused by the need for cybersecurity, privacy, power efficiency, low latency and the new role IT and tech departments will play for companies.

In this talk, I will discuss these developments, highlight the role of semiconductors, designed and made in Europe, in reducing the thirst for energy and give an outlook on possible future developments.
