Using Defects in Solids for Quantum Computation - The Case of the Nitrogen Vacancy Center

16 September 2025, 14:40 - 15:00

Quantum Stack Stage

Presentation

The talk will address the role of defect-based systems in quantum computing, with a particular focus on the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond. Alongside superconducting and photonic technologies, as well as systems based on cold atoms or trapped ions, NV centers are currently being intensively investigated as promising hardware platforms. The system, its properties, and both its advantages and engineering bottlenecks will be presented. Insights will be drawn from research on the optimization of gate operations and on applied quantum error correction, which will serve to illustrate current challenges in hardware development.
