Sandro Gianella leads OpenAI’s Policy & Partnerships team across Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. In this role, he works at the intersection of AI governance, international regulation, and strategic partnerships, supporting governments and institutions in shaping responsible and forward-looking AI policies.
Prior to joining OpenAI, Sandro built and led the EMEA Public Policy function at Stripe and worked on technology regulation at Google. Earlier in his career, he served as a lead analyst on G7 and G20 processes for the G20 Research Group and the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
Beyond his professional roles, Sandro is actively engaged in the European tech and policy ecosystem. He is a member of the Atomico Expert Network, where he advises scale-ups on regulatory strategy, and serves as a Limited Partner in the solo GP fund Common Magic. He was selected as a Young Leader by Atlantik-Brücke e.V., participated in the Transatlantic Digital Fellowship of the Global Public Policy Institute, and is an alumnus of the Internet Leadership Academy of the Oxford Internet Institute.
Sandro holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Toronto and a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin.
