Luise Kranich

As Head of Department at the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Luise Kranich is responsible for the Technology Strategy and Information Technology department. In this key role, she shapes the technological direction of one of Germany’s central institutions for cyber security. Her department develops strategic technology roadmaps, draws up testing methods, analyses, recommendations and standards across the entire technology stack, and operates both specialised laboratories and the BSI’s internal IT infrastructure – a vital contribution to ensuring information security throughout the entire digital value chain. Between 2022 and 2025, Luise Kranich worked at the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BM)) as a head of division, where she was responsible for the framework architecture and standardisation of digital platform and service systems. There, she shaped strategically important programmes for the implementation of the Online Access Act (OZG), which aims to modernise and simplify digital administrative services for citizens. This work combined technological foresight with sustainable administrative modernisation. Prior to her time in the Federal Government, Kranich gained extensive experience in applied computer science research as well as in the non-profit and start-up sectors. Among other things, she headed a branch of the Research Centre for Information Technology (FZI) in Berlin, where she drove forward innovations with practical relevance.
