Evelyn Grass is Head of Division VIA2 (Artificial Intelligence) at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in Germany. In this role, she is responsible for key areas of the German government’s AI policy, including the implementation and further development of Germany’s AI Strategy and the country’s engagement in international AI policy and governance fora, such as the OECD Working Party on AI Governance (AIGO), the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), and the AI Action Summit. Together with the Federal Ministry of Justice, she leads the national and European implementation of the EU AI Act.
Evelyn studied law at the Universities of Passau and Geneva. She began her professional career in antitrust law at the international law firm Allen & Overy LLP (2011–2014). From 2014 to 2016, she served as an advisor on digital policy in the State Government of Schleswig-Holstein. She joined the BMWK in 2016, holding various positions in policy departments and the Minister’s Office before being appointed Head of Division VIA2 in early 2023. Since January 2024, she has also served as Vice Chair of the OECD Working Party on AI Governance (AIGO).
