Ammar Alkassar has been a board member of GovTech Campus Deutschland e.V. since January 2023 and an executive board member since 2025. The organization, which is controlled by the federal government and the states, bridges the gap between the need of government for innovative technologies and sustainable, available solutions. GovTech Campus is supported by numerous sponsoring members, including federal and state authorities, technology companies, research institutions, and startups. Ammar was Saarland‘s State Commissioner for Innovation and Strategy until May 2022, and was responsible for the state's strategy, innovation, technology, and long-term structural policies. He was also the CIO of the state government, with operational responsibility for the state's IT, and a member of the IT Planning Council of the Federal Republic of Germany. Previously, Mr. Alkassar was CEO and managing director of Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity GmbH, venture partner at Statkraft Ventures, and for many years chairman of the board and founder of Sirrix AG security technologies. After his studies, he was a senior researcher at the Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ, and the Helsinki University of Technology, as well as at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). Ammar was a co-founder of IT-Security Made in Germany (ITSMIG), a long-standing board member of the Federal Association for IT Security, a member of the PSG Board of the European Security Agency ENISA, and director at the European Center for Cybersecurity in Bochum.
